In celebration of our 4th anniversary Ann and I decided to stop by a neighborhood favorite, Comme Ca.  As you know I am a big fan of sitting at the bar but this one is not my favorite.  The stools are quite uncomfortable and the entire restaurant tends to run a little warm.  Be sure not to layer up too much during your visit.

To begin our meal we decided oysters would be the way to go.  Some of the most delicious I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.  2nd course was the house burger.  Very good flavor but a little overcooked for us so ask your server for medium rare if you like a little pink in the middle of your meat.

Overall, we had an enjoyable night but I think we'll wait a bit before heading back.

I tend to believe sitting at the bar for the first visit will give you everything you need to know about a restaurant.  This definitely was the case at Ink.  Delicious food, tremendous customer service and I found it extremely refreshing to see the passion and attention to detail our server Devon displayed.  Chef Michael Voltaggio has created a wonderful and welcoming establishment.  I am confident you will have a great experience and highly recommended trying both of the following menu items.

Main Dish:  bay scallops, lamb neck and chickpea poutine, yogurt curds

Drink:  Moscow Mule

Quick Tip:  Make sure to arrange your visit 1 month in advance!

THE SPANISH KITCHEN

This is a great place to dine on a budget but make sure to stop in for Taco Tuesday to reap the benefits.  Not the most authentic Mexican food but the prices make it bearable.

Quick Tip:  Check in on Facebook and get a free shot of tequila.

INK SACK

Not able to get into Ink?  Interested in seeing what the fuss is all about?  Come hang out with Ink's little brother Ink Sack.  Just steps from the main restaurant next to Sweet Lady Jane is a sandwich shop that truly delivers.  A little expensive for the amount of food you receive but I think it's a great place to share a lunch if you happen to be shopping in the Melrose area.

Be sure to get there early as this place has been known to sell out.

Quick Tip:  There is very limited space to eat so make sure to come in pairs.  One person orders while the other scores an inside nook or outside table

HONOR BAR - SOUTH BEVERLY GRILL

This is one of our favorite hangouts.  The customer service has definitely gone down hill but they still make a mean burger.  I also highly recommend giving the pressed sushi appetizer a try.  You will not be disappointed with either one.

TINGA

Interested in a quick bite while running errands on La Brea?  Step into the hidden gem Tinga.  The restaurant may be small in stature but the food is big in flavor.  Give the elote special and short rib tacos a shot.

Beware the habanero salsa, this stuff will set your mouth on fire.

Quick tip:  Make sure to bring change since the old school parking meters are still in effect around this area.

Nestled in the Mondrian Hotel off of Sunset Blvd. this is a place we like to visit often.  The view is magnificent and the food will leave you wanting more.   If it were up to me the Thai beef salad would suffice as my meal but with so many wonderful choices on the menu I would be doing a disservice to my palette.  First timers should give the butter fish and lobster mashed potatoes a try.  Make sure to say hello to the Bea the hostess who always greets you with a big smile.

Quick tips:

  1. Servings are done family style so one appetizer, entree and side should fill you up.
  2. Sign up on blackboardeats.com and receive 30% off your bill at various restaurants in the Los Angeles area.
